Welcome to the MFAH Archives

This site has been made available through funding by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). In 2006, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH) Archives received its second three-year grant awarded by the NHPRC, allowing for the processing of 402 linear feet of archival holdings. The project focuses on facilitating access to these holdings through arrangement, description and the creation of this site to host the MFAH Archives EAD-encoded finding aids. Measures to preserve the documents are also being undertaken as part of the grant project.

The MFAH Archives finding aids guide researchers to select archival holdings by providing descriptions of collections or records followed by folder-level inventories of the materials that comprise them. Finding aids provide information on both the content of the holdings and the context in which they were created. They include summary information on the creating organization or individual as well as the dates, format, arrangement, regulations on use, and subjects of the materials.

After consulting a finding aid, requests for copies of materials may be made using the Reference Request Form to cite the specific call number along with the box and folder numbers of interest. Please see fee schedule for charges that may apply.

The MFAH Archives finding aids will be placed on-line on a continuing basis. For information on holdings for which complete on-line finding aids are not yet available, please search the MARC catalog records in the Hirsch Library On-line Catalog.
