Abstract:
|
The curatorial department of American painting and sculpture was founded in 1995, two years after Emily Ballew Neff became the MFAH´s first assistant curator of American painting and sculpture. Strengths of the MFAH´s American art collection include 19th century landscape painting; American Impressionism; the Hogg Brother Frederic S. Remington Collection; the Taos Society of Artists; the as well as early American modernism in which Synchromism, the "Aschcan School" and the work of Jackson Pollock are particularly well-represented. Pre-1945 sculpture is an area of on-going growth in the American art collection. The American art curatorial records include subject files and correspondence concerning acquisitions, exhibitions and research.
